what gets me though is that anyone can add a poll to an existing thread...and when they do, it's usually a load of BS and has nothing to do with the thread starters topic.  :warhorse

so I suggest that the options to start a poll gets looked over in the YaBB preferences, so that:
only the original thread starter is able to add a poll.

...and before some clown thinks he has to add a poll to this thread - I'll do that myself right now.

Some months ago I set the polls option in such a way that polls can be added to existing threads because it was used in the Brian Jones thread.

Now I think it is abusive and agree with you so I modified it back to "Only the thread originator can make the poll"

for obvious reasons i disagree. i am not the only one that adds polls to other people's threads, but i readily admit i do it most often. i get a kick out of it, and i believe most others do as well. those that don't are most likely the people the poll pokes fun at...and if they get their undies in a bunch at a joke, well...i don't feel too bad about that.

by taking the option away, you are removing a wonderful way to laugh about the personalities and past events of this board. besides, looking at the front page, there are only six threads that i added polls to...and that includes the Josh, Joey and politics threads, which we all know are a waste of bandwidth anyway...

The poll questions ARE fucking funny, I admit - although I can also see why the person who started the thread can get a bit frustrated when the whole thing takes off in another direction. Of course, it hardly needs a poll for THAT to happen....  :pullanolte

that's because 95% of the polls i start are attached to your threads! and as gazza pointed out, the person who started the thread is most likely to get upset at my "contribution", even though it was often not directed at them.

that being said, gazza is right when he says that a thread doesn't need my poll to go off track...joey's intestinal exploits do that far more often than my polls...hell, 95% of the time a thread gets derailed by the third post.
