Title: Anyone have The Nazi/IORR comparison photos? ..Ian
Post by Ian Billen on Nov 10th, 2008 at 10:18pm

Does anyone have the picture of Hitler and The Nazi's coming down the steps in which that picture shows the striking resemblance to the IORR cover?

I think there is a page on some website which was posted here before that has both of these blown up side by side to show the similarity.

Can anyone help me out on this one?

Ian

not really - the use of that setting was , i am sure, used to inform what the IORR image was trying to portray - you not big on art and stuff glen?? - i can recommend some good books if you would like to find out more

that kind of thing  goes on all the time

as picasso said  - bad artists copy - great artists steal

I'm actually a frequent museum visitor. I've been to the best. I just don't recall the subject at hand. I remember reading about the Nazi implications but as I get older, I recall less of this stuff.

Was telling a friend of mine about the similarity and could not find it in Google or Google images. He took note of The Stones and their album covers and is interested in that sort of stuff. I told him some great albums had boring covers. Led Zepplin, to me, always had boring looking albums. Goats Head Soup (American Version) was sort of too seventies-ish and kinda lame to me but still is my personal favorite album by The Stones.

I do not know Josh that well. I am taking your advice on The Black Keys new one.  You suggested them three years ago since I liked The White Stripes so much. Turned out, they were basically right from my back yard and I didn't know it. I heard a lot of their stuff since then but not their most recent ( Attack ) yet.

I don't know why Guy Peellaert, is so obssesive with the Stones and the Nazis, probably those pictures of Brian and Anita inspired him.

Some more repulsive images, this is probably the worst and by far, and please don't ask where is Bill  :wtf3

and this is the one of Brian and Anita.

Even in this, there is a military guy standing in the back, not sure if Nazi or not but on the same

Fuck Hitler and the Nazis, by far the worst chapter in modern history

i always suspected The Stones, especially Keith just liked pissing off parents, so Nazi stuff did it. Even with complete repulsiveness towards National socialism and The Hollacaust, Germans had the best looking miltary uniforms. I seperate the uniform from the idealogy... Even the swazi... It works for me... Shit, I'm of Jewish heritage and I love my Volkswagen!

Is it coincidence, or not? It is a "almost" too close to make a definitive call for me. With that being said I gotta say while it is debatable, still I think it is just a little too similar all the way around and was done purposefully.

I am not saying The Stones put him up to it. They certainly may not of. Did all, or any of them even know at that time that it was being done purposefully...? hmmm I am not sure.  I do think that it, while having a narrow and debatable margin of doubt, I gotta say yes the artist purposefully molded it directly after the Nazi photo.

I see just a slight tad more to put me over the edge of having more than a reasonable doubt it was any sort of coincidence. It is just too similar and a bit too coincidental with how The Stones were with their already controversial, anti-establishment, and all around bad-boy image.

it's a complicated thing trying to figure out what Paellart is trying  to get at  - well it seems so to me - one explanation perhaps e.g. the loathsome portrayal in the nazi uniforms may be some allusion as to how the stones were themselves viewed by the establishment -  decadant evil and depraved, operating within a very elite gang with it's own codes and mores way beyond the pale

the IORR thing maybe no more than an elaborate joke - the humour of which would be very much to the individual taste -tho at that stage in their career there probably were some parallels to be drawn in terms of the slavishness of the their followers (that's us man!!- re the stones  I mean ;))

another thing is Hitler and his "band" were the first to use the tools of 20th century communications - in particular  the electronically amplified Public Address system and the radio (sound familiar) to whip their followers into a frenzy - in some respects hitler was the first "rock star" type figure of the 20th C. Bowie, too, was floating these ideas around at about the  same time as well (see fascist comments scandal circa Station to Station). Those Nuremberg rallies  - all light show, spectacle and loud noises with emotions stirred to orgiastic levels (sound familiar) pre-dated stadium rock by nearly 40 years

then there is the simple "shock" value of the whole thing . As Julian Temple said about Sid's swastika T- shirts - he may not have appreciated the finer historical meaning behind it (tho he quite likely did) but he knew for certain it would get a reaction - I mean, what was Mick thinking when he launched into the goose step during Satisfaction at that Greman concert in the early ' 60's?? (shades of John Cleese!)

i agree with your comments re Hitler and the nazi's Voodoo (and would say Stalin gave him a run for his money) but they are an historical reality that, however heinous, cannot be denied

Sorry that he just died, but this guy creeps me out.  In a painting he did that appeared in David Dalton's "Rolling Stones, the First 20 Years,"  the Stones are all in Nazi SS uniforms, except Mick how  is partially undressed (in drag!), Keith is drinking tea, and Charlie playing the violin and naked little girls are cuddling next to them.  It's horrible.   My scanner isn't working.  I couldn't find it on Google.  Does anyone have it?

Edit: here it is.
